Google "Street View" comes to South Africa!

Street view is finally coming to some of the cities in SA: http://google-africa.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-maps-street-view-driving-begins.html Although it will probably take a year before its released.

After witnessing the UK's response to street view (http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/mar/19/google-street-view-uk where people got hot under the collar about security and privacy issues.), its going to be fun to see how locals will react to the feature. Allowing anyone to checkout your house / business virtually from a vantage point higher than head height, might make some people nervous that the technology will be abused by unscrupulous people. And I think its a more real threat here than in the UK.

Its a technology upgrade though that is inevitable, and I for one look forward to playing around with it and utilising the new technology in Spiraleye's projects (Imagine being able to search for properties in Cape Town and view the house from the street, and take a virtual tour down the road to see what the sea-view is like!).

I just wish Google would sort out the directions and traffic views on Google maps for SA first!
