The Future of Flash and the Web

I've always been a big fan of Adobe Flash. We've used if for numerous websites and CD-ROMs, its great for slick animations and innovative navigation systems (like our "London Underground" style navigation tree we created for the University of Pretoria's information CD-ROM). But I've noticed recently a moving trend on the web to use javascript for flashy like effects. The technology works so well, sometimes I dont even know if it is Flash and have to right click on it just to make sure!

The Tech Breakfast was inspired by the now lost tradition of watching TED videos once a week during lunch breaks. Jonathan revived the idea and we turned it into a monthly breakfast, this one being the first! 

Google "Street View" comes to South Africa!

Street view is finally coming to some of the cities in SA: http://google-africa.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-maps-street-view-driving-begins.html Although it will probably take a year before its released.

Google Translate now translates to Afrikaans!

I am very ashamed that I am a South African and I can't speak Afrikaans. Now at least I can translate Afrikaans emails from clients using Google Tanslate (http://translate.google.com/translate_t) who recently added the language of Afrikaans to its long list of languages. It may be a little rudimentary but it gets the message across:
